In its second phase, the project supports a group of young people in co-managing the Open Casello space through training, research, and co-design activities.

Building on the lessons learned

Open Casello was launched in 2024 as a public space for young people aged 18–35 in the Municipality of Milan, located in a former toll booth in Piazzale Cantore. Between 2024 and 2025, the project experimented with a participatory management model to develop a public programme of cultural events and activities. From 2026 to 2028, the project aims to take this experimentation further by co-designing a public service and supporting young people in gradually taking on greater responsibility for managing the space.

Co-managing Open Casello

We worked on two main areas of activity. First, we completed research on models of co-management for public spaces dedicated to young people through study visits: initially travelling to Belgium and Italy, and later to France. The aim was to identify the most suitable approaches to inspire the future development of Open Casello. Second, we supported a group of young people aged 18–35, selected through a public call. The group takes part in training activities, develops a cultural programme, and contributes to the reflection process around this experimentation. The goal is to gradually strengthen the group’s autonomy in managing the space.
